SUICIDE. - Mrs. Mary Lawrence, wife of Avery Lawrence, committed suicide by taking carbolic acid, on Sunday morning and died at about 12:30 of the same day. The deceased was 52 years old and came here last fall and lived in the Smart property west of town. For some time past it has been feared that she intended taking her life and she was watched carefully, but on Sunday morning she went to an out building and there swallowed some carbolic acid and her cries of agony was the first intimation the family had that she had done the deed. All efforts to save her life were ineffectual and after suffering terrible she died at a little past noon on Sunday. The funeral was held on Monday and conducted by Rev. C. C. Harrah and was largely attended by those who had met and known her during her brief stay among us. The remains were taken to Volga, Iowa, her former home, for interment on the evening train on Monday.

Monday a telegram was received by Mr. Piper's family informing them of the death of Mrs. A.T. Lawrence, which occurred at her home in Newton, Ia., Sunday, April 9th. The news was a shock to her relatives and friends here, as they did not know that she was sick.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence lived for many years in this vicinity and only last fall moved to Newton. The bereaved husband has the heartfelt sympathy of all in his deep sorrow. The remains will arrive to-day on the evening train for interment in the Volga cemetery.
