Added by S. Ferrall on 8/1/2024:

Thomas Allard was born in northern Vermont, July 30, 1844, and at his death on July 29, 1919, he lacked but one day of completing 75 years.

When he was 18 years old he emigrated with his mother, sister, and half-brother to eastern Kansas living near Fort Scott. His step-father it was believed had perished at sea during a journey to England.

Mr. Allard was married to Esther Adell Schriver October 6, 1872, and to them were given seven children, four dying in infancy, and Alice, Mrs. Henry Albeck; George and Willis.

They remained in Kansas until 1889, when they moved to Fayette county, Iowa, living near Hawkeye.

For the past nine years the family lived in McGregor and vicinity, and for the past three years of the time made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Albeck.

During the past year and a half Mr. Allard has been in failing health having had various strokes of paralysis. During the past twelve weeks he was confined to his bed and suffered at the last a severe congestion of the lungs which hastened the end.

Mr. Allard in the last year of the war was a member of the Kansas state militia and assisted in putting down Price's raid in that state and has always had a fellowship with the Civil War veterans.

Brother Allard united with the Methodist church of Alpha during their residence in Fayette county and remained a consistent member. He was particularly sensitive to spiritual things during his last years.

He leaves his near relatives who sorrow, the widow Mrs. Allard, Alice, Mrs. Albeck; George and Willis, with four grandchildren, Fern and Eldon Albeck, and Kenneth and Veda Allard; the half-brother George Smith lives in California, with these a large circle of friends in McGregor and Fayette county where he had lived in recent years.
