Elkader Register, Thur., 2 Sept. 1926.

Jos. H. Zimmerman, well known to many of our readers, passed away at his home in Prairie du Chien, Wis., August 18th. He was born in Dubuque, December 5, 1870, and was reared to manhood in Guttenberg. On Oct. _ (single digit), 1890, he was married to Anna Hagensick of McGregor, from which union three girls were born. The wife died Feb. 2, 1911, and one daughter also passed from among the living. A second mating occurred in March, 1912, when he wedded Ellen K. Seibert of Chicago, and this widow together with the two daughters, Mrs. John L. McGonigle and Miss Cecilia both of Los Angeles, survive him.

When the call to arms went out in 1898 he was among the first to volunteer and became trumpeter in the 1st Texas cavalry. He lived in San Antonio eleven years where he was engaged in the lumber business and later went to Cedar Rapids, Ia., where he was similarly engaged.

The last sad rites were held from the home Saturday afternoon in an impressive service, in charge of Rev. Frances Tromp of Christ Episcopal church, Chicago, following which the funeral cortege of a score of cars was taken aboard his favorite boat across the Mississippi and his body laid away in the family lot beside his parents and other loved ones gone before in Pleasant Grove cemetery in McGregor.

Besides the widow and two daughters he is survived by one brother and three sisters. Among others from outside the Tri-cities who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Meyer (looks like Birocorsky), H. P. Inglis and E. L. Inglis of Chicago, D. F. Wolfe and wife of Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. (looks like Hei_man), Covington, Ky., Mrs. H. Zimmerman, Guttenberg.

He was a member of the Masonic and Elks fraternities and of Harmony Chapter, No. _1, R.A.M., Elkader.
