Louis Bigler, son of Gottlieb and Mary Maues Bigler, was born October 29, 1875, on a farm near Elgin, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and secured his education in the rural schools.

On November 20, 1914, he was united in marriage with Amanda Jauert of Ossian, and to this union four children were born, one of whom died in infancy. They settled down to housekeeping on a farm five miles southeast of Postville, where they have resided continuously since, and by their well-directed labors have prospered and built up a fine farmstead.

Something more than a year ago Mr. Bigler's health began to fail and his afflictions continued until his sudden passing at his home about six-thirty o'clock, Wednesday morning, August 15, 1934, at the age of nearly fifty-nine years. Deceased was an honorable and upright man in all his dealings and along the pathway of life made many friends who regret his untimely passing and sympathize sincerely with those bound to him by closer ties.

Of his immediate family he is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter; also by three brothers and a sister, Henry of Grand Meadow township, Ernest of Decorah, John of near Luana, and Mrs. Caroline Miller of Clermont, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral was held last Thursday afternoon at two o'clock from the Schutte funeral parlors in this city, Rev. R.F. Galloway of the Postville Community Presbyterian church officiating, and was largely attended. Interment was made in the German Bottoms cemetery east of Elgin.
