ARTHUR H. VOGT 1888-1976

Funeral services for Arthur Henry Vogt, 87, were held Friday, February 27, 1976. at Zion Lutheran Church at Clayton Center. Burial was in the new Clayton Center Cemetery. The Rev. John H. Zerhusen, pastor, officiated.

Vogt died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1976. at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis. He had been ill for two weeks with arterio-sclerosis.

A son of Frederick and Lena Vullgraf Vogt, he was born on a farm in Read Township on December 23, 1888. He was a resident of Read Township his entire life. In later years he lived at the hotel in Elkader in the winter and returned to his farm in the summer.

Beginning in 1970 he made his home with his nephew in Clayton Center for four years. In October 1974 he moved to the Great River Care Center in McGregor.

Arthur Vogt was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Mrs. Fred (Ella) Lahrs, Mrs. Louis (Adele) Radloff, Mrs. George (Linda) Kelpien, Mrs. Ed (Ina) Glawe, Mrs. Paul (Leona) Haverland; a half sister, Marion and a brother, Fred.

Surviving is one half-sister, Mrs. Theodore (Lillian) Glawe, Elkader, and the following nieces and nephews: Mrs. Arno (Mabel) Heuer, Freddie Lahrs, Annice Halverson, Mrs. Edmund (Ruby) Kadlec, Rueben Glawe. Mrs. Floyd (Ora) Schroeder, Mrs. Fred (Ilene) Stendel, Mrs. Gwendolyn Stendel, Mrs. Avron (Marrionette) Oleson and Mrs. James (Donna) Courtney.

Arthur Vogt was baptized June 23, 1889 at Zion Lutheran Church by the Rev. F. H. Seifert. He was confirmed on April 5, 1903 by the same pastor.

Among the people attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Schultz, Postville; Mrs. Alvin Volgt, Elkader; Mrs. Lanida Miller, Farmersburg.

Pallbearers were: Reuben Glawe, Floyd Schroeder, Edmund Kadlec, Freddie Lahrs, Fleet Peake and Carl Meyer.
