Willard William George Bareis, 85, Postville, Iowa, died Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, FL, following a sudden illness.

Willard was born on February 22, 1924, in Grand Meadow Township, rural Postville, Iowa, to John George and Adelia Pauline (Dickman) Bareis.

Willard was baptized on March 16, 1924, by the Rev. E. Schmidt and confirmed on November 13, 1938, by the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. Willard attended Postville Schools through the eighth grade.

Willard farmed with his brother, Arthur on the family farm west of Postville, Iowa, for sixty-eight years. He then retired to Monona, Iowa, with his brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Alice. Willard enjoyed the outdoors, mowing lawn and spending time with his family and friends. Willard also enjoyed consulting with his nephews on the day to day operations of the farm. He had a great knowledge of farming and was known for his unwritten farmer's almanac advice.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Alice Bareis, Marquette; brother-in-law, Fred Miller, Waukon; his nieces and nephews, Mike (Kate) Trudo, McGregor, Mark Trudo, Punta Gorda, FL, Rick (Brenda) Trudo, McGregor, Ronn (Sherry) Trudo, Brownsville, MN, Dan (Maryanne) Trudo, McGregor, Mark Miller, Waukon, John (Leslie) Miller, Waukon, Joel (Shawna) Miller, Waukon; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Willard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Adelia Bareis; one brother, Arthur Bareis; one sister, Marjorie Miller and one niece, Ruth Palmer.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010, from 4-8 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
