John Fred Nuehring

Funeral services for John Nuehring were held Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Fayette, Iowa. The Rev. David F. Poganski officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

John Fred Nuehring, son of John W. and Alice (Kruse) Nuehring, was born March 18, 1915 in Clayton County, near Luana, Iowa. He died Jan. 4, 1982 at West Union, Iowa.

He received his education in the rural schools of Clayton County, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. May 23, 1953 he was married to Verda Mae Schultz at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

John worked in Dubuque for two years, then on the Joe McNeil farm. They moved to Hawkeye and from there to Fayette where he worked for the county of the township shop for 14 years, until his retirement. In June 1981 they moved to their present home in West Union.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers in infancy.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons: Roger Williams of Chicago and Ronald Nuehring of Jacksonville, AR; three daughters: Mrs. James (Geraldine) Baker of Postville; Mrs. Neal (Carol Ann) Canon of Mt. Vernon, IL; and Mrs. Roger (Ramona) Fels of West Union; eight grandchildren; four brothers: Orville (Sr.) and Damond, both of Postville, Frederick of Farmersburg and Marlyn of Monona; four sisters: Mrs. Leonard (Frances) Fette of Waseca, MN, Mrs. Leslie (Leila) Fett of Farmersburg, Mrs. Harlen (LaVerda) Welzel of Eldorado, IA and Mrs. Harley (Lorene) Swenson of Garrison, MN.
