BEN BURLINGAME KILLED BY AN ENRAGED BULL
A tragedy happened last night Wednesday, at the Burlingame farm home, when Mr. Burlingame was killed by an angry bull.

Mr. and Mrs. Burlingame were in town in the evening and when they arrived home shortly after ten o’clock the bull was making such a fuss. Mr. Burlingame went out to the barnyard to see what it was all about. When he did not return his wife called the neighbors, Joe Lotza and Ed Lestina and they came at once to her assistance. They found Mr. Burlingames’s body in the yard where he had been trampled to death by the enraged bull. His chest was crushed in, every rib broken, and his lower jaw broken in three places, and a bad gash in the back of his head near the left ear were marks of the bull’s terrible rage. It is supposed he met instant death as all signs of life were extinct when they rescued him from the yard.

His tragic death has caused a gloom to fall over the whole community, His wife, Elizabeth Kastle Burlingame and two sons, Lon of Froelich and Ed of Elkader and a grandchild are left to mourn the loss of a loved one. He was sixty-two years old.

OBITUARY - BENJAMIN H. BURLINGAME
Benjamin H. Burlingame, the only son of Alonzo and Cornelia (Fisher) Burlingame, was born at Holden, Mass., on June 10th, 1867. Two years later they removed to McGregor Iowa, and his home has been in this vicinity all his life.

He is survived by his devoted wife Elizabeth and his sons, Edward of Elkader, and Alonzo of Froelich, and one sister Marjorie Burlingame of Alhambra, California, also nine grandchildren.

“Ben” as he was known to all, was widely known for his plain frank and honest nature. Everybody was welcome at his home, his genuine hospitality was always evident.
