Irene Benzing
Irene M. Benzing, 84, of Gays Mills, Wis., died Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove, Wis., following a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday, November 14, at the United Methodist Church in Seneca, Wis., with Pastor Mike Christenson officiating. Burial was in Giard Cemetery, rural McGregor, Iowa. Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien was in charge of arrangements.
Irene Macel was born February 23, 1921, at Ion, Iowa, to Andrew and Floy (Clauson) Jones. She attended school in Luana, Iowa.
She married Robert Benzing November 23, 1939, in Monona, Iowa. They farmed in the Giard area for many years before selling the farm in 1968 and purchasing a farm in Seneca.
Irene was active in church, teaching Sunday School, loved quilting, and working in her garden.
Survivors include five sons, Roger (Diane) Benzing of Luana, Ronald (Judy) Benzing of Waterville, Paul (Margaret) Benzing and David (Sharon) Benzing, both of Gays Mills, and Kevin (Karen) Benzing of Gilman, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Carl (Helen) Jones of Waukon, Dayton (Kate) Jones and Bill (Mona) Jones, both of Harpers Ferry, and Leon (Linda) Jones of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters, Ruth Hamm of Waterville, Wis., Janet (Stan) Miller of Riverside, Iowa, and Vera (Lyle) House of Fountain, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 30, 2000; three sisters, Pearl, Helen, and Lorraine; a brother, Jack; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor.
