Marie Kahlstorf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Brandenburg, was born in Pommerania, Germany, on February 5, 1864. Her baptism took place soon after her birth at the same place. After being instructed in the Way of Salvation she became a communicant member of the Lutheran Church by the solemn rite of Confirmation. At the age of sixteen she came to America accompanied by a sister and a brother in order to live at Garnavillo. March 17, 1887, she was united in marriage with Fred Kahlstorf at Garnavillo. The couple lived at Manly, Iowa, for fourteen years and Britt, Iowa for twenty-five years. The union was blessed with ten children, eight of whom survive her. They are Fred (Frieda) Kahlstorf Jr. of Britt, Caroline (Fred) Panncke of Postville, Amelia (Dan) Schneider of Monona, Hattie (Otto) Klinge of Britt, Arthur (Mayme) Kahlstorf of St. Paul, Paul (Mary) Kahlstorf of Chicago, Ella (Frank) Fisher of Titonka, and Selma (Willis) Lamker of Monona.

Mrs. Kahlstorf was a devout member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monona the past eight years of her residence here and received the ministrations of the Church regularly. She had been failing in health the past four years, and the past two and one-half years she was mostly confined to her bed under a physician’s care at the home of her daughter, Caroline Panncke. Her tender care was accorded her. Her pastor met an open heart in her for the Word of God during his regular visits at her bedside. To receive the Sacrament of the Altar was her regular wish. These means of Grace ever and again strengthened her under the burden of her cross during her prolonged illness. The Lord relieved her of her suffering Monday afternoon, March 11, 1940.

The deceased tasted the bitterness of sorrow when her husband passed away November 15, 1929. Also one brother and one sister preceded her in death. She is survived by her eight children, 28 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Lena (Charles) Zittergruen.

*NOTE* I am married to Marie Kahlstorf's great-great-grandson, Bradley Wilker. Marie's daughter, Caroline, was his grandma Ella Wilker's mother.
