August Kranert, 80, lifelong McGregor resident and leading businessman, died Friday of pneumonia. Services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Pilkington funeral home.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kranert, McGregor pioneers, he operated a shoe store here for 48 years, retiring six years ago.
He was the founder of the Christian Science church of McGregor and the leader of the church from its beginning. He was an active member of the Kiwanis club since its organization. Unmarried, he was the last of a family of six children. Survivors are two nieces and two nephews, including Harry Eichendorf, of McGregor.
