Joseph C. Nugent, 83, died at 2:20 p.m. Monday at the home of his son, Leo Nugent at Dubuque. He had been ill for three years, seriously so for three months.

Services were at 8:10 a.m. Thursday to St. Patrick's church, Dubuque, with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery, Elkader.

Nugent was born Jan. 31, 1868, at Elkader, son of Patrick and Anna Donegan Nugent. He was married Feb. 01, 1892, to Katherine Connel, at St. Joseph's church, Elkader.

They moved to Dubuque in 1926. He was formerly employed as custodian of the Schmid estate.

Surviving are two sons, Leo and Walter Nugent, both of Dubuque; two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Helen) Papenfuss, of Dubuque, and Mrs. Alfred (Ann) Frick, of Elkader, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, on May 24, 1937, two daughters, three sons, his parents, six brothers and one grandson.
