Alvin William Frank Lenth was born November 17, 1921, at Monona, Iowa to Hubert Johann and Elsie Elizabeth (Ihde) Lenth. He passed away Monday, August 15, 2005, in Gundersen-Lutheran Hospitals and Clinics at LaCrosse, Wisconsin at the age of 83 years, 8 months, and 28 days.

He graduated from Monona High School and began his farming career. November 20, 1945 he married Laura Walch. They were married for almost 60 years. They were lifetime Clayton County farmers, farming in the Garnavillo, Froelich, and Postville areas, following in the footsteps of their parents. Alvin served on several farm organization boards, including the Luana Milk Cooperative and the Tri State Breeders Association. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served on the church council with one term as president

They began farming very simply, with 250 chickens and an unpaid ½ interest in one dry dairy cow. Alvin often joked with Laura about how he married her for her money, $202, and he had only $20.

He is survived by his wife, Laura, two sons, Ron (Kathy) Lenth, Oelwein, Arlyn (Susi) Lenth, Postville, one daughter Julie (Lynn) Hageman, Calmar, seven grandchildren, a brother, Elden (Bea) Lenth, Postville, and a sister, Margie, (Maurice) Landsgard, St. Olaf.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
