Henry Dietrich Polkow died at his home in Read township Sunday morning, Jan. 09, following an illness of three years. He was born April 04, 1880, in Read township.
On Feb. 21, 190_, he was married to Ida Wilker at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Wilker. They made their home on a farm in Read Township. Mr. Polkow spent his entire life in this community.
He is survived by his wife Ida, and six children: Mrs. Wm. (Irene) Bahls, Elkader; Mrs. Otto (Almira) Bushkofsky, Volga; Mrs. Dietrich (Viola) Beck, Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. John (Selma) Stemmer, Elkader; Willis, Rockford, Ill., and Clarence of Elkader, who lives on the home farm.; twenty-three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Louisa Glawe of St. Olaf.
Mr. Polkow was preceded in death by his father and mother, Gottfried and Marie Yahn Polkow, one daughter, Hilma in 1918, one brother Ott, and two sisters, Minnie and Anna.
Mr. Polkow was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church at Clayton Center, from which the services were held Wednesday, an. 12, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiating. Burial was in the New Clayton Center cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Walter Asmus, Jim Garaghty, James Stence, Ray Troester, Freddie Lahrs and Harlan Bachhaus. Flower ladies were: Mrs. Ray Troester, Mrs. Harlyan Bachhaus.
Relatives attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. Alma Hildbrant, George, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Blum, Lavern, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Granson and Norma Jean, Steen, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Fuhr, Rock Rapids, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilker, Rock Island, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Willis Polkow, Rockford, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Dietrich Beck and family, Rockford, Ill.
