Services for George J. Vorwald, 78, of River Falls, Wis., were held at 9 a.m. Monday at the Witt funeral chapel Elkader and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. B. H. Skahill officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery at Guttenberg.
Mr. Vorwald died Thursday at the City hospital in River Falls. His body was brought to Elkader Saturday.
He was born Nov. 07, 1875, at Colesberg, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vorwald. He was united in marriage to Clara Schulte in 1897 and the couple farmed in Jefferson township until Mrs. Vorwald's death in 1926. He later moved to River Falls.
Survivors are two sons, Alphons, of River Falls and George Jr., of Elkader; three daughters, Mrs. Louie Wagner, Elkader; Mrs. Mark McClure, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Cornelius Knudtson, Wadena; three brothers, Edward of Guttenberg; William of Garber and Henry of Galena, Ill; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Bockenstedt of Greeley; Mrs. Rose Wankey of Colesburg and Mrs. Ida Koelker of Lancaster, Wis. There are also ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his wife was a son Alois who died in November 1949.
Pallbearers were six grandsons, Dwain Vorwald, Marcus Petsche, Morris Vorwald, Jerome Vorwald, Don Matt and Lyle Nus.
