Hello friends - First, thank you very much for your considerable efforts on the IA Gen Web project. This James Watkins was my 2x gr-grandfather. I have some feedback for this entry.
As stated on Mac's (his son & my lineage) marriage record to Bertha Beck (from Des Moines) and to the best of my knowledge, his middle initial was J. Also, I believe his birth year was 1833 per IA Gravestone Photo Project - Monona Cemetery, Clayton Co IA. The old stone photo does indeed look like 1835, but in person, the stone reads 1833 (to me anyway). Pls also see James Watkins - Monona Twp. entry in Chicago: Inter-State Publ. History Clayton County IA, 1882. pp. 1066-1067. This resource states he was b. 22 Sep 1833 Morristown, St. Lawrence Co NY. (I have also seen his birth year reported as 1832.)
Some additional info - James J. Watkins was married to Mary Jane McNeil; their children were Lowell, Anna (m. Dr. Geo Tapper) and Mac. They lived outside Monona (city), in Monona Twp.
