Funeral services for Mrs. H. D. Brown, 83, were held from the Witt funeral chapel at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, Feb. 02, to the Congregational Christian church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Herbert G. Kelly officiated. The O.E.S. were in charge of services at the chapel.

Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Mrs. Brown died at her home here Friday morning, January 30, 1948, of arterio sclerotic heart disease, following an eighteen months' illness.

Emma Caroline Heilman was born September 14, 1864 on a farm in Giard township, the daughter of John Jacob and Eliza Schlundt Heilman. She received her education in the public schools of the locality.

She was united in marriage to Harrison Douglas Brown at the home of her parents near McGregor on the 11 of May, 1886. They went to housekeeping in Elkader, which has since been their home for the past 62 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Brown were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in May, 1946.

Mrs. Brown was a member of the Congregational Christian church and the Ladies' Guild of that church, and a charter and 50 year member of Charity Chapter No. 152 O.E.S. She was also a member of the Coterie and Royal Neighbors.

She is survived by her husband and one son, Dr. D. H. Brown, M.D., of Forest City, Iowa; two brothers, John Heilman, McGregor, Henry Heilman, Fort Dodge, one sister, Mrs. Augusta Wiegand, also of Fort Dodge, and one grandson, Douglas G. Brown, Dubuque.

Preceding her in death was a daughter, Hazel, who died at the age of 8 years, and an adopted daughter, Flora, who died at the age of 10 years, also two children who died in infancy.

Pallbearers were: W. W. Davidson, J. W. Downie, Max B. Bishop, Anton Johnson, Frank Speck and H. M. Wolf.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Dr. Douglas H. Brown, Forest City; Mrs. Ilo Gifford Brown and Douglas G. Brown, both of Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. John Heilman and Mr. and Mrs. Severn Johnson and family, all of McGregor; Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Bernhard, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Wiethorn, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wiethorn, all of Monona.
