Thomas K. Lendman, 75, died at his home here Sunday evening after being in ill health for several months.

He was born Aug. 03, 1869, at Volga, Iowa. On Nov. 13, 1894, he was married to Miss Minnie Stahl at the home of her parents on the Volga-Elkader road. With the exception of a few years at Oelwein and in Colorado, he has lived practically his entire lifetime in Volga. Last month he and his wife observed their golden wedding anniversary.

For 33 years he operated a dray line in Volga, first with a team and later with a truck until the railroad was abandoned in 1938.

Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Maria) Rinkert of Volga; four grandchildren: Pfc. Roy M. Rinkert in the service, Russell and Donna Peterson and Doris Rinkert, all of Volga; one sister, Mrs. Larry Gerahty of St. Paul. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Lena Peterson of Oelwein, who died in 1933.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 2 o'clock at the Presbyterian church, with the pastor, the Rev. Russell P. Nelson in charge.

Casket bearers were John Folon, John Duff, Fred Gernand, Frank Phillips, Walter Roys and E. C. Becker. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga City.

Thomas Kerr Lendman, son of John and Anna Kerr Lendman, was born Aug. 03, 1869, a few miles northeast of Volga Iowa. Here he spent his youth on the Lendman farm and received his primary education in the public schools.

On Nov. 13, 1894 he was married to the daughter of a neighbor, Miss Minnie Stahl. They made their home in Osborne, Iowa, where their two daughters were born: Marie, now Mrs. Harry Rinkert, and Lena, Mrs. Wm. Peterson of Oelwein, Iowa. In 1898 they moved to Oelwein where Mr. Lendman had employment. They lived there for nine years followed by two years of residence in Colorado.

In 1909 they returned to Clayton County, purchasing a home in Volga City where they have lived since that time. Mr. Lendman served for many years as city drayman until the railroad ceased to exist.

In 1933 the younger of the daughters, Mrs. Lena Peterson, died, leaving three small children. This was a severe blow to the parents. Mr. Lendman was an elder of the Presbyterian church, and was as long as physically able. He died a regular attendant as after months of failing health on the evening of Dec. 17th, 1944 leaving to mourn his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Rinkert, four grandchildren, Roy and Doris Rinkert, Russell and Donna Peterson. There is also one sister: Mrs. Mary Garaghty of St. Paul and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Volga Presbterian church on Dec. 20, 1944 in charge of Rev. Russell Nelson. Mr. Clarence Kohls and Albert Kunzman sang two duets: "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." Burial was made in Hillcrest cemetery.

Among the relatives and friends from out of town who attended Mr. Lendman's funeral were: Mrs. Mary Garaghty and granddaughter Miss Margaret Jones, both of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Peake, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Preuss, Walter Jellings and Lee Jellings, all of Oelwein; Mrs. Jennie Bachtell, Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. James Muncie and John Muncie, Elgin; Mrs. Jessie Lamphier, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Westendorf, Strawberry Point; Chas. Heiden, Osborne; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Eckheart, Mrs. Carol Bowers, Ferdinand Standt, Arlington.
