Charley J. Stahl was born near Communia, Iowa, on Aug. 05, 1864, a son of John and Mary Heiden Stahl. His early life was spent mostly in Iowa until 1908 when he went to Colorado, there following the trade of a carpenter. Following the death of his wife, Lizzie Stanley Stahl, in 1920, he continued to live there until 1937 when he moved back to Volga. Since that time he has lived here alone until October when he became ill and was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Thomas Lendman. There he died at seven o'clock in the morning of Dec. 15th, 1943, at the age of 79 years, four months and ten days.
He leaves two brothers, Fred of Osborne, and John of Volga; also three sisters, Mrs. Lena Behrens, Mrs. Thomas Lendman and Mrs. William Goodin of Volga, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday in the local Presbyterian church in charge of Rev. Russell Nelson. Mrs. Russell Nelson sang the solo, "when I Look In His Face," accompanied by Mrs. Robert Duff. Burial was made in the Hillcrest cemetery.
Pallbearers were: H. F. Baars, James Bergan, Joe Chapman, Frank Phillips, Fred Rinkert and V. F. Blake.
