George Alfred Leete was born in Highland township, Clayton county, Iowa, on July 12, 1869, and was the youngest child of Robert and Emma Leete.

On March 19, 1891, he was married to Mary Barbara Mentz and they had nine children, one son dying in infancy. His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1926. Those surviving are Mrs. Ruby Susie, Kenyon Minn., Mrs. Fern Griffith, Decorah, Mrs. Hazel Candee, Mrs. Flossie Konzen, Velma, Don, Ted and Ray of Volga. Twelve grandchildren, one brother, Will Leete, one sister, Mrs. Julia Chapman, both of Volga, also survive. Four brothers and two sisters have preceded him in death.

Mr. Leete lived on the farm where he was born until March 1929, when he moved to Volga, where he has lived the past 14 years. Although he has been in poor health for the past 12 years, due to diabetes, he was able to enjoy life until two days before his death.

Casket bearers were Joe Cunningham, Roy Bennington, E. S. Clark, M. J. Martin, H. L. Rogers and William Wenger.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church with the pastor, the Rev. D. V. Butler, in charge, assisted by the Rev. T. J. Elwick of Decorah, a close friend of the Leete family and a former Methodist minister here.

Burial was in the family lot in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga City.
