Alva Kottman, 40, son of Mrs. Sarah Kottman of Volga, was fatally injured when he fell down the hay chute on the John Hueb_ch farm west of Volga Monday. Mr. Kottman was immediately taken to the Oelwein hospital where he died at 8:45 p.m., Tuesday. He suffered several broken ribs, a broken collerbone, a skull fracture and internal injuries.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Thursday afternoon from the home to the Methodist church in Volga.
Mr. Kottman was a brother of Mrs. Art Eckheart of Elkader.

Alva Louis Kottman, son of Louis and Sarah Revell Kottman, was born on a farm near Volga on August 15, 1903. He had lived his entire life in this community. He was educated in the Iowa School for the Deaf at Council Bluffs Iowa. After finishing his education there, he worked on the farm with his parents. It was while doing work on the farm that he met with the serious accident which caused his death.
He was rushed by ambulance to the Mercy hospital at Oelwein where he died about 9 o'clock Tuesday evening, July 13, 1943.
He leaves to mourn his death, his mother, two Sisters, Mrs. Ruth Eckheart, Elkader, and Mrs. Eva Larson, Volga; also three uncles: Henry Kottman, Monona, Iowa; Frank Revell, Butte, Mont.; and William Revell, Banning, Calif.; two nephews, one niece and many cousins besides many friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church with the Rev. D. V. Butler, pastor, in charge. Casket bearers were: Mainard Druecker, Duane O'Brien, Loy Shea, and Hugh Tenney. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery here.
