Henry John Opperman, 83, died Friday morning, May 28, at the State Hospital in Independence, where he had been taken a week ago. Born Nov. 07, 1860, at Minneaska, Minn., he was the oldest son of a family of ten. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Opperman. Jan. 28, 1892, he married Miss Wilhelmina Steinhoss, at Platteville, Wis., to which union two sons were born, Albert and Irwin. Following the death of his wife he married her sister, who also died. Later, he was married to Miss Mary Kunzmann, who preceded him in death March 12, 1918. Mr. Opperman was engaged in farming in this community throughout his life, until his retirement in 1918, when he moved to his home on West Mission street, where he had since resided.
Surviving are two sons, Albert of Strawberry Point and Irwin of Des Moines, and one sister, Mrs. Hannah Allenstein of Strawberry Point. There are also three grandchildren, Mabel and Evelyn Opperman of Strawberry Point and Albert, Jr., who is with the U.S. army in Montana.
Services were held from the Gill funeral chapel at 9:45 o'clock Monday morning, and from Emanuel Lutheran church at 10 o'clock, the Rev. L. A. Stumme in charge. Interment was made at Platteville, Wis.
