Clayton County Register, 18 Feb. 1943.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ernest Wagner, 71, who died at the home of her son, Charles, on Sunday, Feb. 14, were held from the Witt funeral home Tuesday at two o'clock.

Mrs. Emma Jessie Wagner, daughter of William and Sara Jane Dinges, was born in Osterdock, Iowa, Oct. 31, 1871. She came to Elkader as a young woman Nov. 04, 1903, where she was united in marriage to Ernest Wagner. Her husband preceded her in death in 1911. After their marriage they moved to a farm four miles northwest of Elkader where they made their home until his death.

Four children were born to this union. Frances and Viletta preceded their mother in death. The two surviving children are Frank of Charles City and Charles of Elkader.

Mrs. Wagner had been in failing health for many years. She was afflicted with diabetes and three years ago had the misfortune to fall and break her hip, which added to her suffering and confinement.

Besides her sons, Mrs. Wagner is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ella Pierce of Osterdock, and Mrs. Georgia Radloff of Volga City. Also four grandchildren.

The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated at the funeral services and at the burial in the East Side cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Fred Steen, Jake Steen, Chris. Meyer, Arthur Hochhaus, Roy Harnack and Hy Reimer.
