Clayton County Register, 11 Sept. 1947.
Cecil Purman, 25, was killed by a shotgun blast which struck his right side while he was hunting last Thursday. The accident occurred on the farm four miles west of Elkport of which Purman was a tenant.
Sheriff A. W. Mueller who with Coroner E. W. Tuecke investigated the shooting, said that Purman had taken his new 20-guage shotgun to hunt squirrels while he was bringing home the cows. When he failed to return, Mrs. Purman started looking for her husband and found him dead, with the shotgun and three squirrels, near a hill where he had hunted the day before.
In checking the gun, Sheriff Mueller found that it apparently was defective in that the safety flew off at a light bump of the stock on the ground, and the gun discharged at the same time with a heavier bump.
Purman is survived by his wife, the former Wanda Stewart, and two children aged three and one, besides his father, Pete Purman.
