James Nicholas Downey, who had been in failing health for the last five years, died at his farm home in Garnavillo township last Monday, Dec. 16th, at 12:30 a.m.

The deceased, who was a farmer all his life, was united in marriage with Agnes Harding on June 26, 1906. Three children were born to this union, Mrs. Margaret Dinan of Elgin and Lawrence and Wilson at home. These, together with the widow and one grandchild, survive.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church here this morning and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiating. Casket bearers were Joe Kainz, Frank Lynch, Gus Kraus, Jim Meehan, Max Zapf and Jake Walz.
