Funeral services were held July 23 for Mrs. Lena Heitkamp and burial was made in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. C. P. Schrupp of Garber officiating. Casketbearers were: George Ehrhardt, Fred Wistrick, John Schneider, John Downie, F. E. Sharp and Thos. Donahue.
Mrs. Heitkamp died at her home here on July 21 after an illness of three weeks. As Lena Homan she was born March 11, 1860, in Mecklenberg, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Homan. Several years later she came to America with her parents and settled, at first, in Cox Creek township.
August 21, 1879, here in Elkader, she was united in marriage to William Heitkamp, who preceded her in death on June 01st of this year.
Two sons were born to this union, William Heitkamp, now deceased, and Charles Heitkamp of McGregor, who together with one brother and two sisters survive. They are: Charles Homan of Waukon, Mrs. Charles Staebler of Mason City, and Mrs. John Sturm of Osborne.
Mrs. Heitkamp had been a resident of Elkader since 1895.
