Clayton County Register, 06 Mar. 1940.

STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for Charles Henry Martwig were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Stafford funeral chapel conducted by the Rev. Pal Eilers, pastor of the St. Sebald Lutheran church. Eldon Stafford sang "Some Day We'll Understand," with Mrs. Don Tinker playing the accompaniment. The pallbearers were Ernest Eppler, Herman Otdorfer, Mike Eder, Arthur Baumgartner, Floyd Dittmer, and Alvin Waring. The body was placed in the receiving vault until spring, when interment will be made in the local cemetery.

As a son of Michael and Rose Martwig, he was born at Dodge Center, Minn., on Sept. 27, 1887, and died at the University hospital in Iowa City Tuesday, where he had been since Dec. 28, suffering from a head and throat ailment. During this time he underwent five operations. While living in Minnesota he was at the Mayo clinic, where he found nothing could be done.

On July 12, 1912, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Anna Gerasch. To this union five children were born.

In 1928 Mr. Martwig and family came here with the Johnson construction company, when the highway was laid from the county line to Elkader, and where they have since resided. Besides his wife, he is survived by five children: Michael, Arthur, Oscar, Bertha, and Adeline; also one brother, William Martwig of Cromwell, Minn., and two half-brothers, Matthew Schin of Wright Station and Peter Schin of Cromwell, Minn.

Out of town relatives who were here attending the funeral services were Mrs. Fred Terderman and the Misses Berniece and Gertrude, and Arthur Gerasch and son Chester of Dexter, Minn.
