Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Minnie Buckman, who died at the home of her son Arthur last Wednesday at the age of 80 years, four months and 28 days. Short services were held at the Buckman home in Read township at 1:15 and at 2:00 at the Frieden's Evangelical church, here. Burial was made in the Garnavillo cemetery with the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating. Casketbearers were: Emil Best, Albert Doeppke, Geo. Kelpien, Philip Cords, William Mueller and James Foran.

Minnie Dorothea Buckman was the daughter of William Tewes and his wife Marie, nee Lembka. She was born in Read township on September 10th, 1859, having lived her entire life in the township of her birth. She attended the rural schools of that township as well as the parochial school at Clayton Center.

In the year 1878, at Clayton Center, Iowa, she was united in marriage to August Buckman. The young couple at that time moved on the farm on which the deceased lived until her death, a period of sixty-two years. Her husband preceded her in death in the year 1920. To this union six children were born. One daughter and one son preceded their mother in death. The four living children are: Lucy Taake, Sarah Tieden, Loranzo Buckman all of Elkader, and Arthur Buckman of Garnavillo.

Mrs. Buckman began to fail in health about a year ago; gradually becoming weaker until death.

She leaves to mourn her departure, besides the afore named children, two brothers and two sisters, namely: William Tewes of Monona, Mrs. Louise Schulte, Henry Tewes and Mrs. Anna Witte all of Elkader. One sister preceded her in death. Ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also mourn her death.
