STRAWBERRY POINT: The death of Mrs. George O. Steward, mother of Howard V. Steward of this place, occurred Monday morning, Jan. 22, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. August Schmidt near Alington, following a stroke Jan. 08.

Funeral services were held at the Schmidt home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Thomas P. Shaffer of the Manchester Methodist church. The body was placed in the receiving vault at the Strawberry Point cemetery until spring. The pall bearers were: Ernest G. Eppler, Frank Wilder, M. G. Arnold, Charles L. Blanchard, Lewis Gamm and Sigmund F. Shoentag, all of this place.

Ida C. Stringer, daughter of James Justice and Harriet Joy Stringer, and one of 12 children, was born at Elgin, Ill., on February 28, 1870. She came to Iowa with her parents when two years of age. They located on a farm about three and one-half miles west of Strawberry Point.

On October 30, 1887, she was united in marriage to George O. Steward of Strawberry Point. The home was made on a farm for 34 years when they retired and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. August Schmidt, near Arlington. She was a woman who enjoyed doing things for others and always ready to care for the sick if health permitted. Together with a group of relatives and a host of friends they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 30, 1937.

Surviving are her husband and three children, Mrs. Nellie Stamp, a teacher at Manchester, Howard V. Steward of Strawberry Point and Mrs. August (Helen) Schmidt of Arlington, five children and the following brothers and sisters: John A. Stringer and Mrs. Gertrude Reid of Houston, Texas, Howard C. Stringer and Mrs. J. L. (Emma) Alderson of Weiser, Idaho, Percy E. Stringer of Elgin, Ill. Her parents, two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Mrs. Billie Dolan, Will Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Chas, Dolan of Westby, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Percy Stringer of Elgin, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hill of Edgewood.
