Clayton County Register, 10 Jan. 1940.
FARMERSBURG: Friederick Heinrich Carl Klasen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Klasen, was born on Feb. 12, 1859, in Kuekeline, in the Provins Schleswig Holstein, then under Danish rule. He received his instruction in the Hensuehe church district and was confirmed in this church, promising there a faithfulness to his God and to his church.
Mr. Klasen worked as a hired man until his 19th birthday, when he was called to serve as a soldier. After serving his time in the army, he received an honorable dismissal.
In 1883, he left Germany to migrate to America. Here again he served as hired man for a number of years. In 1890 he was united in marriage to Miss Dorothea Baade. Four children were born to this union: Ella, Amanda, Lora and Harvey. For three years they lived on a rented farm near Farmersburg. Then they purchased a farm two miles north of Farmersburg. This continued to be their home until 1919, when they retired and moved to Farmersburg. Mr. Klasen was a member of St. John's Lutheran church.
For the past three years, Mr. Klasen has been suffering from severe heart attacks. Together with his wife, he had, however, hoped to celebrate his golden wedding anniversary on the 24th of January. But on Christmas morning he suffered a stroke, which was to cause his death. He died Dec. 29th at 6:00 o'clock in the evening. He reached the ripe age of 80 years, ten months and 17 days.
He leaves to mourn his death, his wife; his four children, Mrs. Frank Engelhardt, Mrs. Oscar Henkes, Mrs. Albert Henkes, and Harvey Klasen; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
