STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for Henry L. Wing, 93 years old, and probably the oldest man in Clayton county, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Stafford funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. Glenn S. Hartong, pastor of the local Methodist church. The hymns were sung by Mrs. B. W. Talcott and Mrs. Kenneth Esch, with Mrs. Robert Leachman playing the accompaniment. The pallbearers were: D. G. Courtnage, S. F. Schoentag, M. H. Eder, M. G. Arnold, W. V. Smith and George Steward. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
As a son of John and Olivia Wing and the last of a family of five children, he was born near Detroit, Mich., on Oct. 07, 1846, and died Saturday evening from a fall he received that morning. It was thought he suffered internal injuries. In 1854 he moved with his parents to Iowa, living in Garnavillo until 1861, when he moved to Strawberry Point. His father was a shoemaker and Mr. Wing followed the same trade. He farmed for a few years and he also was engaged in the restaurant business for a short time. Then he returned to his shoemaker's trade until 1910. On July 04, 1877, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Easton. To this union two children born, Lee and Mae, now Mrs. Ernest Eppler, both of Strawberry Point. Mrs. Wing died Jan. 17, 1920. Since her death, Mr. Wing has made his home with the daughter. Mr. wing was the oldest member of the Horse Thief Association, and when it was first organized took an active part. Besides his two children, he is survived by four grandchildren, Miss Georgia Wing and Howard Eppler of Strawberry Point; Marvin Wing of Iowa City; and Donald Wing of Mauston, Wis., also one great-grandchild.
