GARBER: Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Bethel church for Ray Smith, who committed suicide Saturday morning. Interment was made in the Bethel cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born near Garber on November 27, 1891. He graduated from Elkport high school and attended the Upper Iowa university at Fayette. After teaching several years, he worked in a grain elevator in South Dakota. While there he married Mary LaVay. About twenty-one years ago he returned to this vicinity, where he made his home on a farm near Colesburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, a year ago; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Smith, and two brothers, Lloyd and Lowell. He leaves to mourn his death, four sons, Keith of Wood Center, Asa of Edgewood, Lloyd and Francis at home; five daughters, Mrs. Ruth Combs near Garber, Margaret, Betty Lou, Mary Jean and Donna at home; also two sisters, Mrs. Osia Nading of Guttenberg, and Mrs. Frank (Elsie) Hyde, of Osterdock, and two grandchildren.
