MCGREGOR: Funeral services were held at the Congregational church, Friday afternoon, for Ernest Nicholson, cashier of the First State Savings Bank, who died Nov. 01, 1939, at the age of 46 years. Mr. Nicholson had been in ill health for the past year or more, and seriously ill for several weeks. Rev. J. E. Parsons conducted the services at the church, while the Masonic order had charge of the burial service, assisted by the American Legion. Mr. Nicholson had been connected with McGregor and Marquette banks for 25 years, and was held in high esteem in banking circles of this section of the state. He held many positions of public trust, being treasurer of both the town and the school district of McGregor at the time of his death. He had held the same positions in Marquette when he lived there. He was a member of the Marquette Lions club, the Service club and Boosters club of McGregor. He belonged to the Congregational church and the Masonic lodge.

Ernest Nicholson was born Sept. 01, 1893, near Ossian, Iowa, and lived there after finishing high school, until his coming to McGregor. In 1917 he was married to Gertrude Hagensick of Marquette, and to them one son, John, was born. In April, 1918, he entered the army and served overseas 11 months in active service, receiving a Verdun medal. He held numerous offices in the local American Legion, county and district organizations.

He is survived by his widow and son, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Nicholson; a sister, Mrs. H. Schultz, all of Ossian, and one brother, H. P. Nicholson, of Champaign, Ill.
