Funeral services for Mary Ellen Leonard, 76, who died at her home Friday morning, were held from St. Joseph's church, Monday morning at 9:30, Monsignor J. P. Taken officiating.
The deceased was the daughter of Patrick and Anastacia Dinan and was born in Clayton county, Sept. 18, 1862. In 1884 she married Richard Leonard. They made their home on a farm in Cox Creek until 1911, when they moved to Elkader.
To this union three children were born, Sister Leonarda of Dubuque, John of Elkader, and Dr. Joseph Leonard of Chicago. Besides her husband and children, she leaves to mourn her death, three sisters, Mrs. Patrick Downey of Elkader, Mrs. James McTaggart of Strawberry Point, and Miss Jennie Dinan of Chicago; two brothers, James Dinan of Elkader, and Lawrence Dinan of Littleport; also eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends.
The pallbearers were six nephews: Harold Downey, Lawrence Downey, Gerald Dinan, Richard Dinan, John Dinan and Robert Dinan.
Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were: Sister Leonarda of Dubuque; Dr. Joseph Leonard, Marjorie Leonard, Miss Jennie Leonard, Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Donlon, Francis Donlon and William Donlon of Chicago, Ill., and Lawrence Downey of Cresco.
