VOLGA: Leon Henry Dohrer, second son of Henry and Bessie Taylor Dohrer, was born in Elkader, March 02, 1904, and was suddenly summoned Tuesday morning, Aug. 15, 1939, at the state hospital in Independence.
Leon, with a courageous spirit entered the hospital six weeks previous in an attempt to regain his health. Spurred with anxious hearts and much concern, his loved ones procured every possible skill to no avail. His course had been run and his life span was ended.
Leon received his education in the Elkader schools. For several years he was in the employ of the Bell Telephone Co.
In 1932 he moved to Volga City with his parents and took up the industry of farming. He will not only be missed by his immediate family, with his generous spirit and sunny smile, but by a large circle of friends.
He leaves to mourn: His parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Dohrer; two brothers, Glen G. of Davenport, and Gordon G. of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. W. J. Cain, Chicago, and Mrs. C. P. Lechner, and one niece, Carla Beth Lechner, of Ames; His grandmother, Mrs. Mary Taylor; several uncles and aunts and cousins.
Services were held at the home Thursday afternoon, Rev. E. J. Starr, pastor of the M.E. church, having charge of the services. the pallbearers were Louis Preuss, Howard Borden, James Brink, Hardy Rogers, William Wilker, and Fred Adams. Interment was made in the family lot in Hillcrest cemetery, Volga City.
We join in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
Relatives and friends from Elkader, Garber, West Union, Strawberry Point, Dubuque, Chicago, St. Paul and Prairie du Chien attended the funeral.
