STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for R. D. Wheeler were held at the Methodist church, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Frank V. Getty. "The Old Rugged Cross" was sung by a quartet composed of Dr. R. W. Dutton, G. J. Gill, W. A. Luse and Myron Siemen, with Miss Helen Buckley playing the accompaniment.
The pallbearers were Dr. F. H. Howard, Otto Abmeier, Alex Holmes, C. W. Buls, Floyd Snyder and Julius Wentzel. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
Ray D. Wheeler, youngest son of Hiram and Emeline Dunning Wheeler, was born near Strawberry Point on Sept. 19, 1873, and died Friday evening when about through with his evening meal at the Franklin Hotel, without a moment's warning from coronary thrombosis, a clogging of the artery which supplies blood to the brain, causing almost instant death through complete paralysis. He graduated from the local high school in 1893 and attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette. He took up his residence in the hotel as soon as it was ready for occupancy in 1903, and has lived there continuously except for five years spent in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Mierson. Surviving are his sister, Mrs. Fred (Mary) Fields of Long Beach, Calif.; a nephew, Hiram Wheeler of Marcus, and two cousins, Mrs. Henry Sheldon of Waterloo and William O. Dunning of this place.
