MONONA: O.E.S. funeral services for Mrs. Sarah E. Mitchell were held at 1:30, Friday afternoon from the local funeral home, and burial was made in the McGregor cemetery.

Monona, Ia. - Funeral service for Mrs. Sarah Mitchell, 93, oldest Monona resident, were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Schultz Funeral Home, with the Rev. G.W. Turner, pastor of the M.E. Church, officiating.
The Eastern Star lodge, of which Mrs. Mitchell had long been a member, also took part in the last rites. Burial was at McGregor.
Mrs. Mitchell died here Wednesday at the home of her nephew, Hermie Sherbonda, following a brief illness of pneumonia.
As Sarah Flack, she was born in Indiana on March 20, 1845, the second oldest of nine children. At an early age she accompanied her parents to Iowa, settling at McGregor.
On July 4, 1877, she was married to P.O. Mitchell and they farmed near Fairbank. Later they moved to Fayette, where he husband practiced veterinary surgery. Several years later they moved to South Dakota, where her husband was a state veterinarian.
Her husband died 13 years ago. She lived in Monona since last summer at her nephew's home. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. John Dunning of McGregor.
