Clayton County Register, 22 Mar. 1939.
Requiem High Mass for Frank Amling, Sr., was solemnized Thursday morning, March 16th, at St. Michael's Catholic church in Garber, by the Rev. Father Julius Olinger, pastor.
Frank Amling was born in New York City, N.Y., October 15, 1853, the son of Frederick and Minnie Amling. At the age of four years Mr. Amling accompanied his parents and family to Elkport, where he had resided in the same neighborhood for more than 80 years.
January 07, 1890, Mr. Amling was united in marriage to Anna Louise Siebert of Dochaut, Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Amling would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary within the coming year.
To this union seven children were born. One daughter, Alice, preceded her father in death.
As a pioneer resident of Clayton county, Mr. Amling has probably cleared more land of its virgin timber than any other one man. He saw the establishment of the railroad through the territory, and lived to see the same abandoned. Mr. Amling always took an active interest in the affairs of the community and was a most faithful member of St. Michael's Catholic parish, which he saw grow from a small mission held in a private home to its present size.
Mr. Amling is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna Amling, of Elkport; and the following children: Frank Jr. of Elkport; Mrs. Anna Preston of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Minnie Baker of Chetek, Wis., John of Elkport, Louis of Mason City, and Mrs. Charlotte O'Brien of Strawberry Point.
Ten grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers were: Dr. F. J. Kriebs, Wm. Costigan, John L. Costigan, Leo Flaherty, Eldo Berns, Albert Tschurgi.
