The deceased was born in Germany, near Berlin, on August 26, 1848. When a young man he came to America and worked in the county for several years, and then returned to Germany, where he was married to Miss Julia Bolte, who returned to America with him, and was his faithful help-mate until her death on October 19, 1915.

Eleven children were born to this union, two, William and Frank, preceding their father in death, at the ages of 18 and 29, respectively. The nine children who mourn his departure are Charles and Henry of Brainard, Minn., Miss Anna of Elkader, Mrs. Alma Heitkamp of Elkader, Mrs. John Glawe of Littleport, John of Lamont, Emil, Herman, and Fred of Elkader.

The deceased farmed during his entire life. After retiring from active work, he made his home in Elkader for seven years; but of late years had been staying in the home of his son and daughter, Herman and Anna.

Mr. Schuetz was baptized and confirmed in Germany, and was a member of Friedens Evangelical church.

He leaves to mourn his departure, besides the aforenamed children, 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held from the home of Herman Schuetz, Wednesday afternoon, March 15, at one o'clock, and from Friedens Evangelical church at two o'clock. Burial was at Clayton Center, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.

(Note: A Card of Thanks, signed The Children, named their father as Ferdinand Schultz. His gravestone in Zion Lutheran, Clayton Center spells surname as SCHUETZ)
