Clayton County Register, 21 Dec. 1938.

STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for Don Mitchell were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Frank V. Getty. Two solos were sung by Eldon Stafford, with Mrs. H. H. Hofer playing the accompaniment. The pallbearers were: Ray Wilcox, Will Hoffman, Ernest Putnam, Henry Skibbe, Paul Schuchmann and Alfred Schmidt. Interment was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.

Don Speed Mitchell, son of David and Emma Mitchell, was born in Fayette county, Dec. 05, 1887. In 1888 he moved with his parents to the Mitchell homestead, which has been the home of the deceased since that time, with the exception of eight years, one year working on the farm of Ernest Nus and seven years in the employ of the hardware store in Strawberry Point. He was united in marriage to Inez MacTaggart on Nov. 23, 1915. To this union two daughters were born, Ila Mae and Dorothy, both at home.

In the fall of 1935, the deceased had the scarlet fever, which left him in poor health with a weakened heart. On Friday he came to town and had returned home complaining of not feeling well, and about seven o'clock that evening passed away from a heart attack.

Besides his wife and two daughters, he leaves two sisters and one brother, Miss Leta Mitchell of Strawberry Point, Mrs. Richard (Bessie) Nus, and Ray Mitchell, both of Arlington. The deceased was a member of Whitewood camp, M.W.A.
