Harley Henry Kalke

Funeral services were held for Harley Henry Kalke, 74, Thursday, February 16, 1984, at Bethany Lutheran Church with interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery [sic], Clayton Center. Rev. David Dennison officiated. Pallbearers were Harvey Moser, Lester Lembke, Clarence Fischer, Roy Lembke, Darrell Kifer, and Donald Leonard.

He was born October 21, 1909 in Read Township of Clayton County, the son of Fritz and Anna Mahnke Kalke, and baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center. December 10, 1930, he married Miranda Hagensick at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. They became the parents of two children.

They farmed the farm where he was born until retiring to Elkader in 1977. He served on the Bethany Lutheran Church Council, was secretary/treasurer for the Read Telephone Company for many years and served on the Denmark school board. He died Tuesday, February 14, 1984, at Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Survivors include his wife, Miranda, one son David, New York, N. Y., one daughter, Mrs. Allison (Mary Ann) Fuelling, Farmersburg, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Alvin, New Richland, Minnesota, and Milo, Nashua, Iowa, five sisters, Mrs. Nelda Schuety, Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Etta Eberhardt and Mrs. Hulda Baade, both of Elkader, Mrs. Frieda Schutte, Guttenburg, and Mrs. Edna Henning, Farmersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hugo and Henry, three sisters, Rena Kamin, and two in infancy.
