STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for George Olinger were held Wednesday afternoon at the home of his son John, near Strawberry Point, conducted by Rev. Hobart M. Grant, pastor of the local Methodist church. The casketbearers were: Wm. Freitag, Gregor Hackert, George Hackert, Leon Olinger, Glenn Olinger and Paul Olinger. Burial was made in the Mederville cemetery.
George Olinger, son of the late, Engelbert and Susan Olinger, was born Feb. 08, 1860, in Sperry township, and was found dead in the machine shed at the home of his son, John, by Mrs. John Olinger, Monday morning.
He was united in marriage to Louisa Voss of Mederville, Jan. 26, 1887. To this union were born two children: John Olinger of near Strawberry Point, and Mrs. Charles Hackert of Mederville.
During his early life he indulged in various occupations, but after marriage they went to farming, first near Aurora, and then, in December 1889, they moved to the farm near Littleport, which continued to be their home until the death of his wife, which occurred Sept. 17, 1915. Since that time he made his home with his children, except for a few years spent in Kansas. Surviving are the two children mentioned above, three grandchildren, Mrs. Greta Freitag, Gregor and George Hakert; and one great-grandson, Neil Freitag. A grandson, Gene Hakert, died on Jan. 01, 1938. Five sisters and two brothers also survive. They are: Mrs. Dick Harkin, Sheldon; Mrs. C. J. Billington, California; Mrs. Emma Graham, Dubuque; Mrs. Julia Clausen, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Frances Baldridge, Strawberry Point; John Olinger, Minneapolis, Minn., and Barney Olinger, Chamberlain, S.D.
Out-of-town people who attended the funeral were: Barney Olinger of Chamberlain, S.D.; Mrs. Emma Graham, Mrs. Fred Frilk, Engelbert Graham and Mrs. Ray Wilhem, Dubuque; Mrs. Clyde G__n of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Baldridge of Manchester; Rev. J. J. Olinger and Mrs. Rose Olinger of Garber; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Clute of Greeley, and Mrs. Mayme Opperman of Elkader.
Some day, we know not when,
To clasp his hand in the better
land
Never to part again.
