Clayton County Register, 31 Aug. 1938.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Wheeler were held Thursday afternoon at the Emanuel's Lutheran church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Max O. Jahr. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery. The pallbearers were Joe Bierrer, Phil Weig, Lee Scheffler and Charles Baumgartner.

Rose Elizabeth Duerst, daughter of George and Mary Duerst, was born at Strawberry Point, Iowa, on May 04, 1858, and died Tuesday at the home of her brother, J. C. Duerst, at the age of 80 years, three months and 19 days, from a heart attack.

At the time of her birth her parents were members of the St. Sebald Lutheran church, where their daughter was baptized and confirmed. When Emanuel's Lutheran church was organized in this city, she and her parents became charter members. For many years she assisted her father by clerking in his store. On Oct. 24, 1900, she was united in marriage to George F. Wheeler. Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler made their home here. After a very happy married life of 28 years, Mr. Wheeler passed away on Aug. 29, 1928. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Wheeler made her home with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Duerst, at whose home she spent the remaining days of her life. Only last spring she mourned the death of her sister, Mrs. Mary Deyo, who died April 08, after an illness of many months, and but three weeks ago, August 06, she attended the funeral of her brother, John Duerst. Now she has followed them in death, leaving but one brother, Julius Duerst, as the last surviving member of the family.

Mrs. Wheeler was a faithful member of the Lutheran church. Although not very strong physically, she was able to be around and make calls on her many friends, and was a regular attendant at church. However, last Friday, a sudden heart attack forced her to her bed. From that time on she grew gradually weaker and on Tuesday she quietly passed away from this life. Besides her brother, J. C. Duerst, she leaves one son, Hiram Wheeler, of Marcus, besides many relatives and friends.
