Clayton County Register, 02 Mar. 1938.
Funeral services were held last Thursday, Feb. 24th, for Mrs. Ella Lamm, who died at her residence here Tuesday morning, Feb. 22, after an illness of twelve days, tho she had been failing for a long time.
Ella Stone (Packer) Lamm, was born September 25, 1861, in Grand Meadow township, and at the time of her death had reached the age of 76 years, four months and 17 days.
She was the daughter of Captain James and Mary Ann (Appelman) Packer, Clayton county pioneers. Mrs. Lamm spent her entire life in this county and for the last 56 years lived in the house where she died.
On June 16, 1880, at Beulah, she was united in marriage with Joseph Lamm, who was an agent on the branch railroad here before coming to Elkader where he operated a general merchandise business and grain elevator many years. He preceded her in death in 1914, but Mrs. Lamm continued her residence here, spending some time, however, with relatives in St. Paul and in Kennewick, Wash.
No children were born to this union, but Mrs. Lamm had a great interest in two nephews and one niece, namely, E. J. Gifford and Mrs. Mae Smith of St. Paul and K. C. Gifford of Kennewick.
She was a member of the local Congregational church, the Order of Eastern Star, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and as long as health permitted she was active in these circles.
Burial was made in the East Side cemetery, with the Rev. N. O. Bartholomew officiating at both the services and grave. Casketbearers were Wm. Becker, E. W. Carlsen, John Downie, W. W. Davidson, M. B. Bishop and G. J. Graf.
Those from a distance who attended the services were Mrs. Ruby C. Glochler of Minneapolis, Mrs. Mae G. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Gifford of St. Paul.
