Funeral Services for Ludwig Schmidt were held at the St. Sebald church, northwest of Strawberry Point, Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Paul Eihlers. Six grandsons were pallbearers: Donald Schmidt, Raymond Nus, Dale Nodurft, Walter Zwanziger, Raymond Zwanziger, and Ernest Zwanziger. Interment was made in the St. Sebald cemetery.
Ludwig Schmidt was born in Eicha, Sacken Meiningen, Germany, on Oct. 10, 1858. There he was baptized and went to school until he was 12 years of age, when he emigrated to America with his mother, his father having emigrated a year before to make a home for them at Taylorville, Iowa. They resided there one year and a half, after which they moved to the present home, known as the Seminary Hill farm, 1873. He was confirmed at the St. Sebald church on Palm Sunday, 1874. He was united in marriage to Amelia Eder at St. Sebald by Rev. G. H. Fuehr on Oct. 09, 1884. The golden wedding anniversary was celebrated Oct 09, 1934.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 12 children: Ernest, August and Mrs. Mary Nus, of near Arlington; Louie, Mike, Henry, Oscar, Alfred, Carl, Mrs. Ida Zwanziger, Mrs. Anna Nodurft and Mrs. Hilda Schuchmann, all of Strawberry Point; also 37 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The deceased had been bedfast for a year, and death came as a relief last Sunday, Jan. 09, 1938, at the age of 79 years, two months and 30 days.
