Mrs. Irene Mitchel Marlett, 79, a lifelong resident of the National community, died of a heart attack on February 19. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Mitchel, she was born June 20, 1869 near Elkader.
She was married December 20, 1891, to Lorenzo F. Marlett. They have spent their entire married life in the National community and the last 52 years on the present farm at the top of the Sni Magill hill.
Two sons and two daughters were born to them, all of whom survive.
She is survived by her husband and son Freeman at home, Royal, of Pinedale, California, Mrs. Alfred Copus of Fresno, Calif. and Mrs. Earl Clinton, Ponca City, Okla.
Also 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Clark, Story City, Iowa and Mrs. Mary Edwards, Cherrvale, Kansas. Two sisters, two brothers and her parents have preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at the Dickman funeral home at Garnavillo Monday, February 23rd, the Rev. A. Meyer officiating. Burial was in the National cemetery.
Pallbearers were seven neighbors: Burton, Carol, Owen and Walter Wright, Ernie Weller, Robert Demo, Harold Schutte taking the place of Walter Wright at the cemetery.
