Mrs. Margaret Cain died at her home here last Friday, Nov. 19th at 8:30 a.m., following a heart attack after an illness of about six weeks.
Margaret (Losch) Cain was born July 08, 1861, in Wagner township, the daughter of John and Annie (Lawler) Losch, and at the time of her death reached the age of 76 years, four months and eleven days. She received her education in the rural schools of this county and here in Elkader, and then in the year 1882, on December 0_, she was united in marriage with P. J. Cain.
Mr. and Mrs. Cain settled on the Cain farm in Boardman township where they resided until about 25 years ago when they gave up farming and removed to Elkader to live in the home on Second Street.
Six children were born to this union but only two survive, namely; Miss Anna Cain at home and Mrs. Lucy Kelleher. One son and one daughter died in infancy while another son, Joseph, died in 1907, and a daughter, Margaret, died in December, 1935.
Mrs. Cain was a member of the Rosary Society and also of the Christian Mothers and Daughters of St. Joseph's parish as well as a devout member of the St. Joseph's Catholic church.
Funeral services were held Monday morning and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery with the Rev. Father J. P. Taken officiating. Casketbearers were: Stephen Donlon, George Cassutt, Wm. G. Allen, D. J. Barton, A. J. Johnson and C. F. Murphy.
Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the services Monday were: Mr. and Mrs. Al Roder of Minneapolis, James Neylon, Jr., of Oelwein, Charles Nelon of Iowa City, and Mr. and Mrs. Chas Bennington of Volga.
