Garnavillo: Funeral services for William Tangeman, Garnavillo's oldest citizen, were conducted last week Monday at the St. Paul's Lutheran church by the Rev. M. J. Harder, pastor. Interment was made in the Garnavillo cemetery. Mr. Tangeman died at his home October 09, after an long illness.
William August Tangeman was born at New Bremen, Ohio, July 02, 1850, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cort Tangeman.
The Tangemans came to Clayton county in 1857 and began farming in Read township. At the age of 27 Mr. Tangeman went back to the place of his birth, and on Feb. 28, 1878, was married to Miss Mathilda K_ttl_r. They came back to Clayton county and set up a farm of their own in Read township. Here they remained until they moved to Garnavillo 40 years ago. Two children were born to them.
Mr. Tangeman was a member of the Lutheran church all his life, having been baptized at the home church in Ohio, and confirmed at the St. Paul's Evangelical church in 1865.
Those who mourn his death are: his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Laura Thoma and Mrs. Irene Ihde. Of his six brothers and four sisters there remain one brother, Ben G., two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Limbach and Mrs. Mahala Schmidt of this place. He had three grandchildren, Mrs. John Scherf, Willis Thoma and Veryl Dean Ihde, and two great-grandchildren, Kieth Thoma and Royce Scherf.
