Clayton County Register, 08 Sept. 1937.
Funeral services for Carl Bandow were held Monday afternoon at the Leroy Bandow home and at the Evangelical church, with burial in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.
Carl Bandow, son of Gottfried and Sophia Bandow, was born in Seehausen, Germany, on September 09, 1852, and died at the home of Leroy Bandow on Friday evening, Sept. 03, 1937, after being confined to the home for about five weeks. He reached the age of 84 years, 11 months and 24 days.
He attended school at Berlin, where he was learning to talk, when, at the age of thirteen, he accompanied his parents to America. They settled on a farm in Wagner township. He attended the school for the Deaf at Council Bluffs, where he received all his education. About 1891 he moved to Elkader with his parents, where he has resided ever since. After the death of his parents, he lived alone for several years, later making his home with his brother Gottfried and family. After Mrs. Gottfried Bandow died, he resided, until his death, with his nephew, Leroy Bandow.
In spite of his affliction, Mr. Bandow enjoyed life and friendships. He was a familiar figure about town and was very appreciative of attentions shown him by people. He was a great friend of children and had several very close friends among them.
Although Carl could not attend church as other people, he enjoyed reading his Bible and writing Bible verses, preparing himself for the time when he should meet his Maker. In the last days of his life, he seemed ever aware that his time was drawing near.
The deceased was never married but leaves to mourn his departure the following nieces and nephews: Elmer Bandow, Elkader; Mrs. Grace Orvis, St. Olaf; Mrs. Lucy Moellering, Garnavillo; Ray Bandow, Intake, Mont.; Leroy Bandow, Elkader; Alice Bandow, St. Olaf; Charles Munger, Delavan, Wis.; Don Munger, Elkader, and Dale Munger, Manchester, besides a host of friends.
