Clayton County Register, 28 July 1937.

Luana: Our dear friend and neighbor, Mrs. George Engelhardt, passed away at her home in Luana at 3:30 Sunday afternoon at the age of 69 years. She has been an ideal patient through all her illness, meeting her suffering with such calmness and peacefulness that it was a marvel to all. The funeral is planned for Wednesday afternoon at the Luana Lutheran church, with burial in the nearby cemetery.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her companion, George Engelhardt; three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Candee of Elkader. Mrs. Florence Garms of Monona, Mrs. Bernice Meier of Postville; sons Irving and Maury, with their families, of Luana, and Gerald at home; and numerous other relatives. Mr. Engelhardt and family have the sympathy of Luana relatives and neighbors in their sorrow.
